Seeking Quality Halal Industries, Ministry of Industry Promotes IHYA 2022

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to grow and develop the halal industry in Indonesia. This goes hand in hand with an increasingly robust Islamic economy, driven by several key factors: a large Muslim population, growing awareness of Islamic ethical values related to consuming halal and thoyyib products, and more national strategies and programs dedicated to developing halal products and services.

With a Muslim population of 229.6 million (2020), Indonesia has huge halal market potential. Indonesian Muslims' spending on halal products and services reached USD 184 billion in 2020 and is projected to rise 14.96% (USD 281.6 billion) by 2025, equivalent to 11.34% of global halal spending, making Indonesia the world's largest halal consumer market. However, this also attracts other countries that make Indonesia a main target market for their halal products.

“To energize the national halal industry ecosystem, Kemenperin recognizes Halal Industry Stakeholders who support and actively contribute to growing, developing and empowering the national Halal Industry through the Indonesia Halal Industry Awards (IHYA), which we began in 2021,” said the Head of the Center for Halal Industry Empowerment (PPIH) at Kemenperin, Junadi Marki, at the IHYA 2022 Outreach in Padang on Thursday (20/10).

By holding IHYA again in 2022, Kemenperin aims to contribute to strengthening the Islamic economic ecosystem, especially the halal industry. IHYA is also expected to become a brand for the progress of Indonesia's halal industry and represent Indonesia's vision as the world's leading halal producer hub. The event also aims to motivate national halal industry players to innovate in growing, developing and empowering the halal industry in Indonesia.

“We are again involving stakeholders from government and non-government institutions, community organizations, associations and academia, from drafting categories, aspects and assessment criteria to the assessment process and selection of winners,” Junadi explained.

Assessment will be carried out by the IHYA Assessment Team chaired by Kemenperin Secretary General Dody Widodo, who also chairs the Advisory Board. The team consists of a technical team, a jury and an advisory board. “The IHYA assessors are representatives of Ministry of Industry work units, relevant ministries/agencies, industry association leaders, community organizations, academics and other halal stakeholders,” the Head of PPIH added.

To prepare IHYA 2022, the organizers have built an information system for participant registration and assessment, so the entire process from registration to assessment will be carried out online through the official IHYA portal, ihya.kemenperin.go.id.
