Realizing a Green Indonesia, Ministry of Industry Drafts Roadmaps for 9 Industrial Sectors

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has affirmed its commitment to supporting a green Indonesia by accelerating the decarbonization agenda in the industrial sector. These decarbonization efforts will contribute significantly to increasing the competitiveness of national industry while meeting global carbon emission reduction targets.

“As part of national efforts toward net zero emission, Kemenperin has designated nine priority industrial sectors that are the focus of accelerated decarbonization. This shows the government's seriousness in transforming the industrial sector to become greener, more environmentally friendly and sustainable,” said the Head of the Agency for Industrial Standardization and Service Policy (BSKJI), Andi Rizaldi, at AIGIS Goes to Campus at Bina Nusantara University (Binus) Jakarta on Tuesday (22/7).

The nine priority sectors are the cement, fertilizer, metal, pulp and paper, textile, chemical, automotive, food and beverage, and glass and ceramics industries. “These sectors are referred to as industries with high GHG emissions. We need to prepare strategic steps,” the Head of BSKJI said.

According to Andi, Kemenperin is drafting a decarbonization roadmap for each of these industrial sectors, covering technical guidelines, supporting policies, technology and financing needs, and cross-sector collaboration.

“We are targeting net zero emission for the industrial sector by 2050, 10 years earlier than the national target. This means we must prepare a direction or roadmap so that national industry can quickly transform toward low-emission, environmentally friendly production over the next 25 years,” he explained.

Andi added that drafting this roadmap involves various stakeholders, including industry associations, businesses, academics and international institutions, to ensure the strategies are realistic, measurable and have real impact. Cross-sector collaboration, especially with educational institutions such as Binus University, is believed to be able to accelerate a competitive and sustainable industrial transformation.

“Campuses are a strategic environment for creating technology- and creativity-based solutions for the future of a green Indonesia. We believe Binus University also has great potential as a pioneer of innovation and an incubator for future green innovators,” he added.

AIGIS Goes to Campus at Binus University carried the theme “Technology and Creative Solution for Greener Future”. “The presence of AIGIS Friends today is not merely symbolic. Every idea and innovation born on campus has the potential to create real solutions to industrial and environmental challenges,” Andi Rizaldi said in front of the students, academics and industry players present.

AIGIS Goes to Campus is part of the series of the 2nd AIGIS 2025, to be held on 20–22 August 2025 at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC). Through the AIGIS Goes to Campus program, Kemenperin actively partners with various universities to build spaces for dialogue, foster the spirit of innovation and strengthen young people's literacy on green industry and sustainability issues. Similar events were previously held at the University of Indonesia, Padjadjaran University and Trisakti University.

“Campuses are incubators of future ideas. Young people have a strategic role as catalysts of the green industry transformation, including through research, technology, campus policies and social movements,” Andi explained.

AIGIS is a strategic Kemenperin program that integrates policy, technology, cross-sector collaboration and public participation to accelerate the green industry transition in Indonesia. AIGIS is also a consolidation platform between government, business, academia and the public to achieve globally competitive low-carbon industrial development.

“AIGIS is a joint movement. Let us make this forum the starting point of change. In the hands of the younger generation lies the hope for an industrial transformation that is fair, resilient and sustainable,” Andi stressed.

At AIGIS 2025, Kemenperin will initiate the establishment of the Green Industry Service Company (GISCO). Its aim is to be an aggregator bridging industry's needs with easier access to adopting low-carbon technology and green financing.

“GISCO will be the driving force of domestic industrial decarbonization, especially for businesses facing investment constraints in adopting green technology. With GISCO, we will therefore accelerate the industrial transformation toward more massive and effective decarbonization, especially for the manufacturing sector, which is the backbone of domestic industry,” he concluded.
