At the end of 2022, the BBSPJI Tekstil team won First Place at the Textile Innovation Award (TexNovA) 2022, held by PT. Ever Shine Tex Tbk. and PT. Primarajuli Sukses on 17 December 2022. At the event, themed “Green and Sustainable”, the team led by Dr. Rr. Srie Gustiani, ST., MT. presented a more environmentally friendly natural fiber biodegumming technology already used by the Ulap Doyo weaving community in West Kutai, East Kalimantan.
Ulap Doyo is a green product (made from natural raw materials) that supports carbon reduction and is environmentally friendly. However, the doyo fiber produced is still stiff and hard because of its high lignin, pectin and hemicellulose content. Although biodegumming takes longer than chemical degumming, the results are much better. Optimized biodegumming can significantly reduce lignin and increase cellulose content. This improves the absorption of natural dyes, so the colors are more solid and vivid.
The achievement was welcomed by the Head of BBSPJI Tekstil, Mr. Cahyadi. He said BBSPJI Tekstil is developing expert functional groups ready to provide industrial solutions through activities that optimize the use of technology.
“The quality of SMIs' woven fabric products can improve and the products will become more popular, because the colors are better and the fabric's handfeel is softer and not rough. The added value is that there are no hazardous chemicals, as the process does not involve chemical mechanisms. We hope it can meet the applicable regulatory standards in this regard,” he added.
