As public awareness of the importance of air quality grows, various health protection product innovations have emerged, including fine dust blocking products. Producing products that block very fine dust particles requires safety and comfort testing facilities, so that users can be confident in the quality of the health protection products they buy.
“We now have a testing laboratory for fine dust blocking products at BBSPJI Tekstil Bandung. The laboratory will focus on testing products that protect against fine dust, covering particle filtration capacity, filtration efficiency, and comfort and safety for consumers,” the Head of the Agency for Industrial Standardization and Services Policy (BSKJI), Andi Rizaldi, said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday (25/11).
The fine dust blocking product testing laboratory is the result of international cooperation between the National Standardization Agency (BSN) and Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL), followed by technical cooperation between KCL and the Center for Standardization and Industrial Services (BBSPJI) Tekstil, signed in 2023. In 2024, the testing equipment grant was handed over to BBSPJI Tekstil.
The Head of BBSPJI Tekstil, Cahyadi, hopes the new testing laboratory will soon begin serving the medical device industry and the textile and textile products (TPT) industry producing medical textile raw materials.
“With support from KCL, proficiency testing and calibration have been completed. An extension of the scope of the National Accreditation Committee (KAN) accreditation is also in the application process,” Cahyadi said.
He added that the trend of using health protection products should be seen as an opportunity for the TPT industry to support the medical device industry ecosystem by ensuring domestic raw material supply for medical devices, especially medical masks and medical apparel.
“It is important for the TPT industry to keep innovating and developing products that meet medical-grade standards, the main requirement of the medical device industry,” he added.
Although the Covid-19 pandemic is over, the medical device industry still has positive growth. This is seen in the rising uptake of domestic medical devices, from 12 percent in 2019 to 48 percent in 2024. The number of medical device companies has also increased eightfold compared with 2020, reaching 1,199 as of June 2024.
