The halal industry in Indonesia has shown significant growth. This has also been driven by the development of halal as a theme that is no longer merely about compliance with rules, but has become part of a modern lifestyle representing quality, safety and sustainable products.
“Halal principles are present not only in consumer products, but also in supply chains, services and daily lifestyles. It is this ecosystem that adds value for industry while strengthening the competitiveness of national products in the global market,” said the Secretary General of Kemenperin, Eko S.A. Cahyanto, at the press conference on Kemenperin's participation in the Halal Indonesia International Industry Expo 2025 (Halal Indo 2025) in Jakarta on Monday (22/9).
Referring to Law 59/2024 on the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN), one of the policy directions for developing the manufacturing industry is to become the world's halal industry hub. To implement this policy direction, Kemenperin's Halal Industry Center has 6 (six) main programs: drafting technical policies, establishing and strengthening halal industry infrastructure, developing halal industry human resources, facilitating the halal industry, increasing promotion and cooperation in the halal industry, and supervising and controlling the halal industry.
Eko further said Kemenperin wants to affirm its commitment to strengthening halal industry downstreaming, expanding exports and solidifying Indonesia's role in the global halal value chain. One way this is done is through promotion and Kemenperin's participation, in collaboration with PT Dyandra Promosindo, in Halal Indo 2025, to be held on 25–28 September 2025 in Halls 6 and 7 of the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD, Tangerang, Banten.
This year, Kemenperin is present at Halal Indo with the theme Experience the Diversity of Indonesia's Halal Industry: Shaping the Future of Global Halal Industry. The Kemenperin pavilion occupies an area of 1,224 m² and features 128 industry players and associations from various sectors, from food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, textiles and miscellaneous industries to Halal Industrial Estates, as well as halal industry ecosystem infrastructure within Kemenperin. The industry players in the Kemenperin pavilion have gone through a curation process by the relevant sector supervisors.
In addition, there are opportunities to learn more about the halal industry through various fun and interactive activities, including workshops on painting halal tableware, using a canting for halal batik, mixing non-alcoholic perfume, a make-up class using halal cosmetics, decorating bento cakes, and mixing jamu and spiced teas.
The Indonesia Halal Industry Awards (IHYA) ceremony will also take place at this year's Halal Indo. IHYA is a form of appreciation that Kemenperin has given over the past 5 years to stakeholders who have actively contributed to the development of the national halal industry.
This year's IHYA awards are given to large and small-medium industrial companies in the food and beverage, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and traditional medicine, textile/apparel and ceramics (tableware) sectors. Awards are also given to industrial estate companies, government institutions and Financial Service Institutions that support the halal industry program. In addition, there will be special awards for individuals considered to have made major contributions to the development and empowerment of the halal industry.
Besides showcasing leading halal products, Kemenperin will also present Industrial Festival 2025 as a platform for cross-sector collaboration in showcasing the innovation, creativity and achievements of national industry. This year is the second Industrial Festival, reaffirming the Ministry of Industry's consistency in providing a space for interaction between the industrial world and the wider public, especially the younger generation.
“The Industrial Festival complements the government's efforts to strengthen downstreaming, expand markets and introduce Indonesia's industrial transformation to the global level,” Eko stressed.
Activities at Industrial Festival 2025 include Business Matching, Public Services, a Halal Clinic, an Increased Use of Domestic Products (P3DN) Program Clinic, an IPR Clinic, a SIINas Clinic, a Packaging Clinic, an SNI Clinic, a Public Consultation Forum, an Inspiring Lecture by the Minister of Industry, a Public Lecture with the Deputy Minister of Industry, Factory Visits, and engaging talk shows on halal lifestyles and building a national halal ecosystem oriented toward global markets.
In 2024, Industrial Festival collaborated with Halal Indo, with more than 500 companies taking part. At the peak of Industrial Festival 2024, around 1,100 students and various communities enthusiastically attended the Public Lecture by the Minister of Industry.
Halal Indo is Indonesia's largest international-scale halal exhibition. In 2025, Halal Indo, in collaboration with Glam Local and Jagat Aroma, will invite more international participation, both as exhibitors and prospective buyers, and open greater opportunities for brand owners to introduce their halal products. Halal Indo 2025 will feature a series of programs including Halal Connect, Business Matching, a Fashion Show by #MARKAMARIE, IHYA 2025, special performances by well-known national singers, and various Industrial Festival 2025 events.
“The Ministry of Industry's participation in Halal Indo 2025 is an important moment to show the strength of the national halal industry, while opening opportunities for global investment and collaboration. We hope the public will increasingly understand the great potential of Indonesia's halal industry,” he said.
Meanwhile, the President Director of Dyandra Promosindo, Daswar Marpaung, said Halal Indo 2025 focuses on helping drive the growth of the country's halal industry. The annual event is the right means to build a strong and integrated ecosystem by bringing together all stakeholders from upstream to downstream.
Halal Indo 2025 is connected to a network of international halal expos, including Mega Halal Bangkok, MIHAS in Malaysia, the New Zealand Halal Show and the Halal Expo in Istanbul. This year, Halal Indo has attracted international interest, both as exhibitors and prospective buyers, from Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, China, Ghana, the Philippines, Libya, New Zealand, Singapore and the United States.
“Halal Indo 2025 is not just about showcasing products, but also about weaving a shared vision. We believe that to make Indonesia the world's halal center, we must build a strong and integrated ecosystem from upstream to downstream. This event is real proof of solid collaboration between industry players, the government and the public to achieve that goal,” he explained.
