The Ministry of Industry is committed to continuing to drive the growth of the country's craft and fashion industry because of its large market potential, which is believed to be globally competitive. This determination is reinforced through cooperation with the National Crafts Council (Dekranas), such as the Bincang Dekranas talk show themed “Indonesian Fashion and Crafts Go Global” as part of the 44th Dekranas Anniversary celebrations in Surakarta.
“Our fashion and craft products are part of Indonesia's cultural wealth with high artistic and aesthetic value, and Bincang Dekranas is expected to inspire and motivate artisans to highlight the uniqueness of their products so they can compete in the global market,” the First Deputy Executive Chair of Dekranas and Chair of the 44th Dekranas Anniversary Committee, Loemongga Agus Gumiwang, said in Surakarta on Friday (17/5).
The Bincang Dekranas talk show featured well-known speakers discussing current trends in the craft and fashion industry, especially in management aspects such as marketing, production, finance and HR management. The inspiring speakers included Happy Salma (Founder and Creative Conceptor of Tulola Jewelry), Ni Luh Djelantik (Founder of Ni Luh Djelantik Shoes and Accessories) and Dona Kristi (Owner of Abbacraft Multi Kreasi).
The Director General of Small, Medium and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA) at Kemenperin, Reni Yanita, said businesses, including SMIs, need to keep innovating, be eager to collaborate and dare to take risks in running their businesses in order to succeed.
“Developing and succeeding in business requires strong determination and business skills. Through this talk show, we hope business owners can find inspiration in the tips and tricks shared and learn from the speakers' experience so they can follow in their steps into the world market,” she explained.
Speaker Happy Salma, Founder and Creative Conceptor of Tulola Jewelry, agreed. In her view, business collaboration is very important because it provides inspiration or new perspectives on product uniqueness, leading to new products. “But be careful when taking inspiration: do not copy other people's ideas exactly. To avoid this, expand your references when innovating,” she said.
The 44th Dekranas Anniversary on 15–18 May 2024 in Surakarta was enlivened with a range of activities such as a thanksgiving ceremony, an Expo of SMI products, a fashion show, talk shows, a decorated car parade and Cultural Procession, as well as special stands offering Surakarta's signature cuisine.
