Indonesia's Group of 20 (G20) Presidency must be used to strengthen industry amid a world hit by a multidimensional crisis from the Covid-19 pandemic lasting more than two years. The forum has the political and economic power and capacity to drive recovery, in line with the 2022 G20 Presidency theme, “Recover Together, Recover Stronger”.
“Indonesia's G20 Presidency focuses on three priority sectors considered key to a strong and sustainable recovery: global health architecture, sustainable energy transition, and digital and economic transformation,” said the Head of the Agency for Industrial Standardization and Services Policy (BSKJI) at the Ministry of Industry, Doddy Rahadi, in Jakarta on Friday (13/5).
Doddy said his agency recently initiated a National Seminar themed Strengthening Industry Amid the G20 Presidency, attended by more than 700 participants from government, academia, practitioners, industry and industry associations. “The national seminar discussed two priority sectors: digital transformation and energy transition,” he said.
The G20 Presidency national seminar presented 58 scientific papers on digital transformation and sustainable energy. It is expected to improve the competence of industrial human resources and civil servants through dissemination of science and technology.
“The seminar results will become ISBN-registered proceedings published and processed as an e-Journal at Kemenperin. The journal can be a source of knowledge and new understanding to inform decisions by various parties,” Doddy said.
Doddy continued that through the G20 Presidency, Indonesia has a great opportunity to win global investor confidence, contributing to industrial growth and job creation and accelerating national economic recovery.
“Throughout 2021, non-oil and gas manufacturing contributed 17.36% of national GDP, from sectors including food and beverages, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and traditional medicines, and metal goods,” he said.
Given the importance of industry to national and global economic growth, this year's G20 Presidency includes a specific discussion of industry issues in the Trade, Investment and Industry Working Group (TIIWG).
Kemenperin has high hopes that the manufacturing sector can use the G20 Presidency as a forum to share industrialization experiences with developed countries.
“This aims to increase industry's role in driving sustainable economic growth to overcome global supply chain disruptions, which will certainly create new jobs and increase economic added value,” Doddy explained.
