The Ministry of Industry is determined to keep optimizing the Program to Increase the Use of Domestic Products (P3DN) to boost business enthusiasm and productivity for industry players in Indonesia. Various strategic policies and activities have been carried out to promote P3DN; besides inviting the public to love and use local products more, Kemenperin is also proactively encouraging industry to maximize the domestic component level (TKDN) of every product it makes.
“Through the P3DN program, we are optimistic that we can increase the productivity and competitiveness of industry in the country, ultimately boosting national economic growth and public welfare,” Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said on Thursday (12/12).
The Minister stressed that his side has consistently helped domestic industry players obtain TKDN certificates. This targets not only large-scale industry, but also makes it easier for small industry to obtain TKDN certificates, free of charge.
“Through TKDN IK (Small Industry) certification, SMI products will become a government procurement priority. That way, flagship domestic products made by SMIs will be absorbed fully and significantly, strengthening the national industrial structure,” said Agus, who also serves as Executive Chair of the National P3DN Team.
For his commitment to implementing this policy, Minister AGK received an award from the integrated business media outlet CNBC Indonesia at the CNBC Indonesia Awards 2024, themed “Embracing Optimism in the New Era of Indonesia”. The award was presented by CT Corp Chairman and Founder Chairul Tanjung (CT) in Jakarta on Wednesday evening (11/12).
Minister AGK received the “Leading Policy Maker in Strengthening Local Components and Providing Support to Local Companies” award. The recognition was given because the policies implemented were judged to be on the right track.
“I would like to express my deepest thanks to CNBC for the trust given to us in receiving this award, which relates to our efforts to increase and fight for TKDN, the domestic content level,” the Minister said in his remarks that evening.
According to AGK, the award is a form of recognition not only for him, but one that is more deservedly given to all his staff at Kemenperin. “Those who really deserve it are all the employees and officials of the Ministry of Industry, who have always stood firm with us and been consistent in enforcing the rules, especially those relating to TKDN values,” he said.
On that occasion, the Minister said that over the past three months the Apple issue had drawn wide public attention, especially regarding Apple not yet being allowed to sell the iPhone 16 in Indonesia because of an investment commitment yet to be realized. “Apple has not yet been able to make the commitment, so we cannot grant the 35 percent (TKDN) certificate, and as a consequence we cannot give Apple a distribution permit in Indonesia,” he said.
The Minister stressed that his side continues to coordinate with the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming to realize Apple's investment in Indonesia. “We are working with Mr. Rosan, and what is certain is that we want Apple to bring its investment to Indonesia soon, and the investment must take the form of a production facility or factory,” he said.
AGK added that the award from CNBC will also strengthen the shared drive to increase the competitiveness of Indonesian industry. “So we keep fighting to advance domestic industry and national products,” he concluded.
The CNBC Indonesia Awards 2024 are given to companies and to figures and business leaders who have brought change and written success stories amid current economic and political uncertainty. Recipients include former President of Indonesia (2004–2014) Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Minister of SOEs Erick Thohir, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, and Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani.
