The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to promote the implementation of green industry policy and the development of functional textiles in the textile and textile products (TPT) industry, including small and medium-scale businesses. To support the capabilities of small and medium industries (SMIs) in applying green industry, Kemenperin runs the Industrial Technology Improvement Partnership Fund (DAPATI) program.
“One form of the DAPATI program is consultancy and guidance on improving production process technology efficiency and WWTP performance by the DAPATI consultant team from the Center for Industrial Standardization and Services (BBSPJI) Tekstil Bandung,” said the Head of the Agency for Industrial Standardization and Services Policy (BSKJI) at Kemenperin, Doddy Rahadi, in Jakarta on Friday (4/8).
The consultancy and guidance for SMIs has had positive impacts in the form of energy and water efficiency and reduced use of chemicals that can pollute the environment. One company that received consultancy and guidance is CV. Oshwin Bustari Makhruf, an SMI providing textile apparel garment washing services located in Bandung Regency, West Java.
The DAPATI consultant team from BBSPJI Tekstil also introduced simple, value-adding textile finishing process technology to the traditional weaving SMI Bentang Terang Putri in Majalaya, Bandung Regency. The finishing produced, among other things, a type of functional textile, antibacterial fabric, which is beginning to attract the domestic market.
“The challenge for SMIs in implementing technology is the fairly large capital needed for finishing machinery. However, through consultancy and laboratory-scale trials, process technology can be simplified and implemented in SMIs,” he said.
Doddy said DAPATI is a regular program of Kemenperin's Agency for Industrial Standardization and Services Policy. It aims to help SMIs improve their technological capabilities through technical guidance and industry assistance, so they have the same opportunity to move up into environmentally friendly industries and become part of the functional textile producer ecosystem.
The BBSPJI Tekstil DAPATI program is expected to change the paradigm that technology is something exclusive. “Through adoption and reverse engineering, process technology innovations can emerge that can be applied in small and medium-scale industries. This is the important role of Industry Supervisors that industry players can feel directly,” he explained.
The Head of BBSPJI Tekstil Bandung, Cahyadi, added that BBSPJI Tekstil's industry supervisors are ready to provide solution-based assistance to SMIs and new entrepreneurs in the TPT sector through process technology optimization and engineering, technical consultancy and technical guidance. “This covers fiber, yarn, fabric and apparel development, fabric dyeing and finishing, and management systems,” Cahyadi explained.
Two DAPATI activities in the TPT sector have produced encouraging results. CV. Oshwin Bustari Makhruf saw significant impacts in several aspects, including a 15 percent reduction in water consumption intensity, a 36 percent reduction in energy consumption intensity and a 15 percent reduction in chemical consumption.
“This activity benefits us, because improved efficiency can lower the company's operating costs, especially water, energy and chemical costs,” said Ismail Makhruf, Director of CV. Oshwin Bustari Makhruf.
At the SMI Bentang Terang Putri, tests of antibacterial finishing on non-machine loom (ATBM) woven fabric showed antibacterial capability lasting up to 25 household washes, with antibacterial effectiveness against Staphylococcus aureus of 87.44 percent, and 67.71 percent after washing.
“Traditional woven fabric, which is usually rarely washed, can now avoid odors caused by bacteria. This increases comfort for users. Going forward, we hope to continue cooperating with BBSPJI Tekstil so this finishing process can also be applied to yarn raw materials,” said Cucu Juariyah, owner of the SMI Bentang Terang Putri.
