Ministry of Industry Applies Industrial Standardization through SIINas

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is committed to achieving industrial development that is self-reliant and sovereign, advanced and competitive, and fair and inclusive. One step taken is the issuance of Minister of Industry Regulation (Permenperin) No. 45 of 2022 on Industrial Standardization.

“Permenperin 45/2022 was issued to further improve product quality, strengthen industrial competitiveness and reduce dependence on imported products,” said Kemenperin Secretary General Dody Widodo, representing the Minister of Industry at the Kickoff Launching of Permenperin 45/2022 in Jakarta on Tuesday (11/4).

The Secretary General said the scope of Permenperin 45/2022 includes the government guiding Industrial Standardization by regulating the appointment of Conformity Assessment Bodies (LPK), conformity assessment procedures, and producers' applications for product certification through the National Industrial Information System (SIINas). “The regulation also governs mandatory SNI and supervision of products circulating in Indonesia,” he said.

Dody said Kemenperin plays an important role in regulating standardization through formal regulations to provide certainty and quality assurance for products made by domestic industry. “So that products meet the set standards, increasing the competitiveness of domestic industry in the global market,” he stressed.

To date, Kemenperin has set 123 product standards that must meet mandatory SNI, and appointed LPKs consisting of 47 Product Certification Bodies (LSPro) with testing laboratories.

In the context of import substitution, appropriate standardization can improve domestic product quality so it can compete with imported products that meet standards. “Standardization is a tool that can support Kemenperin's import substitution program, because standardization is one of many non-tariff barriers that support the use of domestic products,” Dody explained.

He added that these efforts can strengthen the position of domestic products in the home market and reduce dependence on imports, and are expected to drive the growth of a resilient, globally competitive national industry.

On the same occasion, the Head of the Agency for Industrial Standardization and Services Policy (BSKJI), Doddy Rahadi, said implementing Permenperin 45/2022 will also improve services to the industrial community, as product certification applications are submitted through SIINas.

“Mandatory SNI will of course protect consumers by ensuring products meet standards for safety, security, health and environmental preservation,” he said. This is expected to increase the competitiveness of national producers in fair business competition to supply the national domestic market.
