The Ministry of Industry is focusing on increasing the productivity and competitiveness of the textile and automotive industries. Both manufacturing sectors are included in the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap and have development priority to become more innovative and globally competitive.
“One of our efforts is preparing competent human resources in line with today's workforce needs,” the Head of the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) at Kemenperin, Masrokhan, said at the opening of the 3in1 Training for Junior Sewing Operators and Periodic Motorcycle Maintenance at the Industrial Education and Training Center (BDI) Jakarta on Tuesday (6/2).
The Head of BPSDMI explained that Kemenperin's strategic step in producing excellent industrial human resources is competency-based training, known as 3in1 Training, in which participants receive training, competency certification and job placement.
“Indonesia has a promising opportunity because of its demographic bonus, with more people of productive age than non-productive age. This means there are many young workers with potential to be optimized,” he said.
Masrokhan said that in the automotive sector, Indonesia is one of the world's largest markets, with more than 125 million motorcycles. “Demand for motorcycle servicing and maintenance is rising. This opens great opportunities for young people to become reliable and professional motorcycle service technicians,” he said.
Meanwhile, the textile industry is also a labor-intensive, export-oriented sector, making it an important pillar of the national economy. “This Sewing Operator and Motorcycle Service Training is one effort to equip our young generation with the skills and knowledge needed to become agents of change and national development, especially in industry,” he added.
Masrokhan is optimistic that with the participants' dedication and hard work and guidance from reliable instructors, the 3in1 Training will achieve its goals. “Participants will become competent sewing operators and motorcycle service technicians, ready to compete in the workforce and able to contribute to regional and national economic progress,” he said.
Masrokhan also hopes participants who complete the program can apply the knowledge and skills they have gained at work. “We also invite all industries and relevant stakeholders to keep supporting this initiative, so that together we can create excellent industrial human resources able to compete in the global market,” he said.
The Head of BDI Jakarta, Ali Khomaini, said 130 participants took part in the two vocational training programs: 100 in the 3in1 Junior Sewing Operator Training and 30 in the 3in1 Periodic Motorcycle Maintenance Training.
“The aim is for participants to master the skills and be competent in the garment industry and motorcycle workshops,” he said. The 130 participants comprise 80 men and 50 women from regions including West Bandung, Garut, Tasikmalaya and Depok.
The instructors come from Widyaiswara (government trainers), practitioners, associations and teaching teams experienced in vocational education and training. “The 3in1 Periodic Motorcycle Maintenance Training lasts 14 days and the 3in1 Sewing Operator Training 12 days,” Ali said.
On the same occasion, the HR Manager of CV Bakrin Jaya Majalaya, Rian Hasan, praised Kemenperin for initiating the 3in1 Training program to produce competent industrial workers. “We hope the workforce training at BDI Jakarta can provide a solution for the garment industry in finding skilled, job-ready workers,” he said.
Moreover, the garment industry still needs many skilled workers, especially ahead of Eid al-Fitr, when demand for clothing usually rises. “So medium and large industries are currently facing a crisis of skilled, job-ready workers needed to increase productivity,” Rian said.
He said West Java currently still needs around 4,000 skilled workers as Sewing Operators to meet the garment industry's needs. “We therefore hope BDI Jakarta can continue holding the 3in1 Training to produce skilled, job-ready graduates,” he explained.
