Ministry of Industry: Innovative Young Generation Drives the Growth of the Creative Industry

The creative industry is one of the strategic sectors that makes a large contribution to the national economy, in terms of employment, added value and the strengthening of Indonesia's cultural identity. The government therefore continues to encourage this sector to become an important pillar strengthening Indonesia's position in the global market.

“The creative industry is a very dynamic space for growth, driven by young people's creativity, technological innovation and the richness of local culture,” Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday (14/12).

Agus stressed that Kemenperin is committed to opening up more space for collaboration in strengthening the capacity of creative industry players. “We will continue to facilitate activities such as workshops, design competitions, business incubation and national and international exhibitions. This step is in line with the policy direction of the President's Asta Cita and the inclusive and sustainable industrial development strategy through SBIN,” he explained.

As a form of this commitment, Kemenperin, through the Fashion and Craft Industry Empowerment Center (BPIFK), took part in M Bloc Design Week (MBDW) 2025, held on 7 November 2025 at Uma Seminyak, Bali. At the event, BPIFK showcased the works of finalists of the Indonesia Fashion and Craft Award (IFCA) and held creative workshops designed to broaden the insights and skills of the younger generation.

The Director General of Small, Medium and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA), Reni Yanita, explained that Indonesia is currently in a demographic bonus moment that will largely determine the direction of development toward the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision. “With this momentum, we have a great opportunity to foster an innovative and creative generation that can become the driving force of national industry,” she said.

The Director General of IKMA added that the potential of the creative industry, much of which is driven by young people, must continue to be maximized. “Today's generation has a strong concern for environmental and sustainability issues. This is reflected in the growing number of creative businesses adopting the concept of sustainable design,” she continued.

At MBDW 2025, themed “Movement & Mobility”, BPIFK held two creative workshops open to SMI players, students of the Bali Design Institute (IDB) and the general public. The two workshop sessions were “Workshop Making Ecoprint” and “Workshop Design Thinking Fundamentals”.

The Head of BPIFK, Dickie Sulistya Aprilyanto, said the steam ecoprinting technique introduced in the workshop uses natural pigments from leaves and flowers to produce environmentally friendly organic patterns.

“We invited participants to understand the selection of leaf types, fabric characteristics, the mordanting process and pattern arrangement through to proper steaming techniques to produce patterns that are natural, aesthetic and durable. This reflects BPIFK's commitment to sustainable production practices,” he explained.

Dickie also said BPIFK wants to foster work by the younger generation that is not only aesthetically superior, but also relevant to market needs and supportive of the principles of industrial sustainability.

Meanwhile, the “Design Thinking Fundamentals” workshop equipped participants with the creative human-centered design approach through the stages of empathize, define, ideate, prototype and test. This approach is designed to enable participants to produce innovative solutions rooted in human needs and social context.

“We hope this workshop can improve the creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial skills of participants, especially students and SMI players. We hope more new entrepreneurs will emerge in fashion and craft who uphold sustainability values and can strengthen the creative industry ecosystem in Bali,” Dickie concluded.
