For Safeguarding the Industrial Sector, Minister of Industry Receives Star of Honor from the President

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita received the Bintang Mahaputera Adipradana honor from President Joko Widodo for his service and contribution to the sustainability of the country's industry during President Jokowi's administration in the 2019–2024 Onward Indonesia Cabinet. The honor was conferred on 14 August 2024 at the State Palace in commemoration of the 79th Anniversary of Indonesia's Independence.

“God willing, we can uphold the value of the honor given by the state through the President,” the Minister said at the State Palace in Jakarta (14/8).

The Bintang Mahaputera Adipradana is the highest honor after the Star of the Republic of Indonesia. It is awarded by the president to individuals deemed to have rendered great service to the Indonesian nation and state.

During his tenure as Minister of Industry in the Onward Indonesia Cabinet, Agus took various initiatives to support national manufacturing. His policies include ensuring manufacturing kept running during the Covid-19 pandemic, mitigating the impact on manufacturing amid geopolitical conditions, and protecting domestic industry from a flood of similar imported products aimed at the Indonesian market.

Through these efforts, manufacturing has shown strong performance. According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the processing industry consistently makes the largest contribution to the national economy, reaching 18.52 percent in Q2-2024, higher than the same period last year at around 18.26 percent. In the same period, non-oil and gas processing industry growth reached 4.63 percent (y-o-y).

The Minister is optimistic that manufacturing performance in the country can keep improving if supported by policies on the availability of raw materials for production, the continuation and expansion of competitive industrial gas prices, and firm import regulation.

Besides the Minister of Industry, the President also conferred honors and decorations on 63 other officials, including ministers, deputy ministers, officials of high state institutions, heads of government and non-ministerial agencies, TNI and Police officials, and Indonesian civilians from professional and cultural backgrounds.
