The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), through the Agency for Industrial Standardization and Services Policy (BSKJI), is providing support through services for industry, a concrete step to address the challenges and problems facing industry, especially during economic recovery.
One form of support is a One Stop Solution for the textile and textile products (TPT) industry by Balai Besar Tekstil (BBT), a BSKJI work unit in Bandung. BBT provides the Industrial Services and Solution Center (ISSC), expected to increase the competitiveness of the national TPT industry globally.
“The role of BSKJI work units is to guide and serve industry, backed by competent human resources, locations close to industrial commodity sectors, and facilities spread across Indonesia,” said the Head of BSKJI Kemenperin, Doddy Rahadi, in Jakarta on Thursday (3/2).
Doddy said the government prioritizes several issues and regulations in national industrial development, including strengthening green industry as a commitment to the green economy, applying Industry 4.0 technology through the INDI 4.0 program, developing the halal industry, Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certification of industrial products, and a 35% import substitution target in 2022.
“To speed up delivering this policy and regulatory information to the TPT industry, the ISSC serves as an information center and provides self-assessment assistance for the TPT industry,” he said.
ISSC services include halal textile information, TKDN and INDI 4.0 self-assessment assistance, information on TPT product quality and test method standards, and information on Green Industry regulations.
“Besides helping industry prepare to meet government regulatory requirements, the ISSC is also a solution center for problems facing the TPT industry,” he added.
One problem facing the TPT industry is energy needs, especially with plans to raise basic electricity tariffs. The ISSC offers an energy conservation audit program to companies as an energy efficiency step in TPT production. The program is beneficial because industry can learn the energy load of each machine and get efficiency strategy recommendations. “This will certainly support the implementation of Green Industry concepts,” Doddy said.
Strengthening TPT competitiveness also requires assured production quality and SNI-based product quality standards. Balai Besar Tekstil, through its product certification body TEXPA, has added product certification scopes, including SNI 08-7035-2004 Upholstery fabric and SNI 8914-2020 Textiles – Cloth masks.
Also included are SNI 8913-2020 Textiles – fabric for surgical gowns, surgical drapes and medical coveralls, SNI 8443-2017 Textiles – Nonwoven sound dampers from textile materials, SNI 8857-2020 Textiles – Prayer mats, SNI 8856-2020 Textiles – Mukena (prayer garments), and SNI 8213-2016 Textiles – Sewing thread. Several of these SNIs support import substitution and the halal industry in the consumer goods category.
For SMIs, efforts to apply quality standards for traditional woven fabric include cooperation with BSN and other stakeholders. SNI application is based on assuring product safety and health under SNI 7617:2013/Amd.1:2014 Textiles – Requirements for azo dyes, formaldehyde content and extractable metal content in fabric, Amendment 1.
“By applying this SNI, SMIs can increase the added value of their products in global markets, as their products are assured free of chemicals hazardous to users,” Doddy stressed.
