Impressive: These Ministry of Industry Center Innovations Can Be Used by the Defense Industry

The domestic defense equipment industry is expected to make use of modern technologies and new inventions created by Ministry of Industry centers. This “matchmaking” is believed to boost the national defense industry's competitiveness so its products are accepted in global markets.

“We therefore helped showcase several results of optimized industrial technology use designed by Kemenperin centers at Indo Defence 2022 at JIExpo, Kemayoran,” the Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transport Equipment and Electronics Industries (ILMATE) at Kemenperin, Taufiek Bawzier, said in Jakarta on Friday (4/11).

The Director General of ILMATE said Kemenperin centers have created technologies that can support product updates in the national defense industry. “With these product technology innovations, we are optimistic the defense industry will grow stronger, contributing significantly to national economic growth and supporting import substitution policy,” he said.

All centers or technical service units (UPT) under Kemenperin's Agency for Industrial Standardization and Services Policy (BSKJI) provide services in industrial standardization, optimizing industrial technology use and industrial services, all highly committed to service quality for customers, including industry. Their findings are not just research but ready for commercialization.

At Indo Defence 2022, the Center for Agro Industrial Standardization and Services (BBSPJI Agro) presented food testing process technology for military purposes. “We provide technical services to the public and agro industries such as food and beverages and fertilizer,” said the Head of BBSPJI Agro, Siti Rohmah Siregar.

BBSPJI Logam dan Mesin (Metal and Machinery) showcased armored track links for tanks. This component is part of the tank track that contacts the road and, as a whole, moves the combat vehicle.

“The advantage of this track link design is rubber pads that reduce tank noise and make it more comfortable on paved roads. This modified shape helped the research obtain a patent. Another advantage is that our track link can run in mud because it has small wing- or paddle-like parts,” said the Head of BBSPJI Logam dan Mesin, Gunawan.

BBSPJI Keramik dan Mineral Nonlogam (Ceramics and Non-Metallic Minerals) contributes to strengthening the defense sector by making bulletproof vests, bulletproof helmets and military vehicle armor as a substitute for steel. The bulletproof helmet was developed through research cooperation with the Ministry of Defense's R&D Agency and PT Pindad, and was granted patent No. ID P 0028082 in April 2011 and is ready for commercialization.

“We always support the progress and capabilities of the domestic defense industry. We also hope what we develop can reduce Indonesia's dependence on foreign technology,” said the Head of BBSPJI Keramik dan Mineral Nonlogam, Azhar Fitri.
