The Ministry of Industry has officially launched the Indonesia 4.0 batik motif to commemorate six years of the Making Indonesia 4.0 program and National Batik Day (HBN) 2024. This modern batik design is the result of cooperation between the Center for Standardization and Industrial Services for Crafts and Batik (BBSPJIKB) Yogyakarta and the SMI Guru Batik Indonesia.
“Batik, as Indonesia's world-recognized cultural heritage, is now transforming in the Industry 4.0 era. This transformation not only preserves traditional values, but also integrates modern technology to increase the added value of batik products and the competitiveness of the industry,” Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday (4/10).
By making use of digital technology, batik artisans can now create new motifs and designs in line with global market trends. This is what BBSPJIKB Yogyakarta has achieved together with the SMI Guru Batik Indonesia. Through this strategic partnership, it is hoped the batik industry will keep growing with innovative ideas and creative solutions.
The Indonesia 4.0 batik motif design is inspired by the Industry 4.0 era, depicting key Industry 4.0 technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), representing leadership, combined with robotic hands representing collaboration and synergy. In addition, Wi-Fi signals implemented in industry represent connectivity; PCB circuits forming arrows in all directions symbolize digital technology increasingly affecting every aspect of life; and the border motifs symbolize continuity.
The Head of the Agency for Industrial Standardization and Services Policy (BSKJI), Andi Rizaldi, said the ornaments are arranged geometrically and repeatedly to symbolize prayers offered repeatedly and unceasingly for Indonesian industry. “All the ornaments are interconnected, symbolizing connections that encourage the use of automation technology in industry,” he said.
Furthermore, at the heart of the motif are a processor and AI at the center, symbolizing technological progress and leadership, because however well industry develops, leaders will remain decisive for success. “Several PCB ornaments also meet to form arrows in all directions, in the hope that this industrial revolution can support all kinds of businesses in Indonesia to grow and reach their highest potential,” he added.
Andi said the launch of the Indonesia 4.0 batik motif also aims to show that developing and using high technology, especially Industry 4.0 technology, must still respect the culture and identity of the Indonesian nation. “By applying the philosophy of connection, synergy and growing together in the Indonesia batik motif design, we hope Golden Indonesia 2045 will come ever closer to reality,” he stressed.
