The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to promote the empowerment of the national halal industry, including by strengthening the halal ecosystem at home. This goes hand in hand with the development of the Islamic economy and halal lifestyle, believed to be important elements in developing new and sustainable sources of economic growth.
National economic growth of 5.03% in Q1-2023 was supported in part by the manufacturing sector, which contributed 0.92%, the largest of all sectors. The halal industry is part of manufacturing that focuses on increasing value added and is expected to become one of the drivers of the national economy.
As the country with the world's largest Muslim population—241.7 million in 2022, or 87% of a total of 277.75 million people—Indonesia is now the world's largest consumer of halal products, with consumption projected to reach USD 281.6 billion in 2025.
“Indonesia should naturally be the host of halal products in its own country while also supplying the world market, and even become a major international player as a producer of halal products. Through the Indonesia Halal Industry Awards (IHYA) 2023, we hope the halal industry ecosystem will be further spurred to collaborate in realizing Indonesia's vision as the World's Leading Halal Producer,” Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said at the IHYA 2023 Kick Off in Jakarta on Thursday (27/7).
Kemenperin first held IHYA in 2021, producing 14 winners and one Best of The Best award. In 2022, IHYA was presented to 20 winners plus one Best of The Best winner. At the third IHYA in 2023, Kemenperin will present 21 awards, including for best halal innovation, best social and community program, best halal supply chain, best small industry and best halal industrial estate.
Awards will also be given for best export expansion, best halal program and best halal financial support. “We keep striving for this award to embrace the entire halal industry ecosystem, so several adjustments have been made to the categories and subcategories so all halal stakeholders can take part,” the Minister said.
Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry Putu Juli Ardika said IHYA is being held again in 2023 to show appreciation to stakeholders who have played an active role and continuously innovated in growing, developing and empowering the national halal industry. IHYA is expected to keep driving greater public awareness and understanding of the national halal industry.
The event invites participation from the entire halal industry ecosystem, consisting of industrial companies, industrial estate companies, government agencies, higher education institutions, financial services institutions and community organizations. The IHYA 2023 process will be carried out online via ihya.kemenperin.go.id, with participant registration open until 25 August 2023 at 23.59 WIB.
To liven up IHYA, the public can also take part in a content creation competition with photos, videos and posters on the theme Halal Industry Production Processes. This was initiated to make IHYA better known to the public across the country and to increase participation by prospective IHYA award recipients.
